Description: How do you move on after losing the person you loved? How do you build a life worth living? Louisa Clark is no longer just an ordinary girl living an ordinary life. After the transformative six months spent with Will Traynor, she is struggling without him. When an extraordinary accident forces Lou to return home to her family, she can’t help but feel she’s right back where she started. Her body heals, but Lou herself knows that she needs to be kick-started back to life. Which is how she ends up in a church basement with the members of the Moving On support group, who share insights, laughter, frustrations, and terrible cookies. They will also lead her to the strong, capable Sam Fielding—the paramedic, whose business is life and death, and the one man who might be able to understand her. Then a figure from Will’s past appears and hijacks all her plans, propelling her into a very different future... For Lou Clark, life after Will Traynor means learning to fall in love again, with all the risks that brings. Review: I read this book right after I finished Me Before You because I wanted closure as well as just wanted more. How was I supposed to continue on after finishing the heartbreaking first novel? Well, this second book was definitely the answer... or so I thought. I had high expectations for this book considering how truly unbelievable MBY had been. Sadly, this sequel did not meet those expectations. I will say that it did carry the same humor we all loved in MBY, but in all honesty nothing else was the same. It seemed like I was reading about a completely different character than Lou (yes, I understand that she would have changed after everything she went through, but there were no similarities at all between the old Lou and the "new" Lou). Don't get me wrong, there were many parts of this novel that I enjoyed, but there were even more parts that I did not enjoy. For the majority of the time I was reading this novel, I found myself being really frustrated with the characters/story rather than sitting back and enjoying the read. It seemed to only go downhill and that a lot of these depressing events could have been avoided, but the author was trying too hard. By the end of the book, I found that it was seriously dragging out rather than wrapping up nicely. I honestly believe that Me Before You and After You should be thought of as two separate books rather than a first book and a sequel. I'm not saying that I did not enjoy this book at all, but I am saying that (especially compared to MBY), it did not live up to my expectations. If you have just read Me Before You, I highly advise that you do not read this book unless you are going into the mindset that it is not in the same series/category as Me Before You. Rating: 2/5 |
