Description: DIVINE MISFORTUNE is a story of gods and mortals---in worship, in love, and at parties. Teri and Phil had never needed their own personal god. But when Phil is passed up for a promotion - again-it's time to take matters into their own hands. And look online. Choosing a god isn't as simple as you would think. There are too many choices; and they often have very hefty prices for their eternal devotion: blood, money, sacrifices, and vows of chastity. But then they found Luka, raccoon god of prosperity. All he wants is a small cut of their good fortune. Oh -- and can he crash on their couch for a few days? Throw in a heartbroken love goddess and an ancient deity bent on revenge and not even the gods can save Teri and Phil. Review: I had really high expectations for this book. A friend recommended it to me with raving reviews and continually expressed how it was his favorite book. Thus, it had to be pretty great, right? Well I mean, eh, kinda. It wasn't necessarily a bad book, but it wasn't a good book either. It honestly surprised me that an adult book was written in this manner. But it's not an awful book or anything. Honestly, it was pretty funny in a lot of ways. If you are into humor that is more on the silly side, then this is the perfect book for you. It is also a very light read in the sense that the writing style is very simplistic. With this being said, I do not recommend this book for people who do not like writing similar to Twilight, because honestly this book was written on the same level if not lower (in regards to sentence structure and the complexity of the writing). There were many great things about this book, but in the end it wasn't the book for me. The characters were really selfish and were really whiny as well. For being an adult book, it seemed really juvenile to me. The plot was really predictable as well and there were just a few other issues I had with it. Despite all this, I really enjoyed the premise of having god/goddesses from different cultures and religions mixed together as well as the personalities they all had. I enjoyed the plot points more than the actual book due to how it was written and such. Overall, I do not regret reading this book, but it definitely is not a favorite of mine and probably just not the book for me. Rating: 3.5/5 |

Adult Book AlertYes, this is a predominantly YA blog, but in case you are looking to add a little variety into the mix, then this is a pretty decent adult book to start with! ArchivesCategories |
