Description: A new day. A new place. A new life. In the past few years, Mclean has pretended to be so many different people that she hardly remembers who she really is anymore. The adorable guy next door might be able to help her figure it out. But is she ready for it? Review: You know how people have authors that they just absolutely adore and are completely obsessed with their books? Well let me tell you, Sarah Dessen is definitely one of those authors that I completely adore and I am obsessed with her books. What Happened to Goodbye held all the elements I so dearly love about her books and I had a great experience reading this! The main character, McClean, was very relate-able both with how she started out in the story as well as the progress she made and who she ended up becoming at the end of the story. As a matter of fact, I found some of my views distorted in the beginning but then found myself growing alongside McClean, which was something really awesome to experience through this book. I felt many strong feelings as I read this book, which just shows how powerful the writing and characters were. I really enjoyed a lot of the symbolism that the author used in the book and how we can see the progression of various characters throughout the story as well. Even though I absolutely loved this book, there were still parts that were predictable and some characters completely irritated me. There were only a few problems I had with this book (such as McClean being obtuse when there were clear facts right in front of her), but honestly there are a lot of good books out there that have these same flaws. This was a solid read and it was truly beautiful to see the transitions McClean made. I recommend this book along with every other Sarah Dessen book! Rating: 4/5 |
